Balancing an elevated on-site brand expression with improved site performance

To achieve an e-commerce experience that not only reflected the brand’s aspirational brand positioning but also optimized site performance, Monark & Co. focused on an elevated, improved user experience, easy-to-maintain conversion rate optimization tactics and a simplified back-end content management system.

The Challenge

Develop, design and implement a new e-commerce experience on both mobile and desktop, elevating the brand expression while improving user experience and site performance.

Understanding the importance of capturing the brand’s emphasis on natural ingredients, traditional craftsmanship, and its deep connection to the Provençal way of life, MCo set out to thoughtfully redesign Bastide’s website. The goal was to reflect the brand’s artisanal aesthetic while enhancing navigation, improving discovery, and optimizing overall site performance.

After conducting a comprehensive analysis of the existing website and brand materials, MCo recognized a disconnect between the poor visual design of the previous site and the high-quality, hand-crafted nature of Bastide's product offering. 

MCo addressed this by updating the website's aesthetic to align with Bastide's brand ethos, as well as addressing the need for ADA compliance by developing new web-safe colors that adhered to accessibility standards while remaining true to Bastide's brand guidelines. To boost conversion rates, they implemented clear calls-to-action, streamlined the checkout process, and added features like wishlists and product recommendations.

Additionally, MCo implemented a user-friendly content management system on Shopify Plus, and provided a comprehensive training to empower Bastide’s team to easily update and maintain the site to keep content fresh.
